Eden06.07.11

A few years ago I (re) opened my photo studio.  I had taken a few years off of shooting.  I considered it a recharging of sorts.  Having done that I was at the beginning again.  I had no clients, no leads, no “ins”.  I was starting from scratch. (again)  One of my first seniors was a girl by the name of Sara.  She was my kind of subject, as in, go out and shoot and see how it goes.  It was a fun shoot and the images worked out great!

Some time went by and I got a call from Sara.  Seems she had found Mr. Right and was getting married.  Awesome!  I was stoked!  You can see a few of the images here.

Well, coming almost full circle, I was lucky enough to photograph Eden Rose this afternoon!  Eden happens to be Sara’s darling little girl!

Once again, Sara just let me shoot.  What a treat!

I was going to mention to Sara and her husband Logan that the next step will take us full circle. (Their grandchild)  :-) But I thought better of the comment as I did not want to rush the years ahead of them as they tend to go by way to quickly.  I think it is better that they just hug and hold their little angel before she grows up and is to big to hold like this.

Dance 207.08.10

These are the outdoor shots I took of the dancers.  Well some of them anyway.  Walking around town it was super hot, bright and just down right ugly.  I like days like that sometimes.  It keeps me from getting to lazy. There were pretty trees and flowers to use as a background but that is just not my style.  Anyone will do that.  I like taking it to a little different level when I am trying something new. So, the bright streets it was.  Although, we did go under a tree for a few shots.  I wish I would have under-exposed a little more in the tree shots but they pass as a work in progress.

I really like these last four shots.

Something new for me this time.  I have decided to go outside of my comfort zone and work on a dance project.  Since I know nothing about dance (other than what my niece has told me from time to time) I was at the mercy of my assistant Jill and the knowledge from my subjects.  I cannot really remember the names of the positions but I do know these girls knew what they were doing.

Lexi was a huge help. (I still do not remember the positions she was spouting out) But she was very helpful and a very fun subject.

I really like these images

I also learned there is an Acro dance style.  This little dancer was amazing.

We also took a walk outside and they all played it up very well.  I will show those tomorrow.

An Afternoon at Sweet Peas Flowers12.02.09

Such a cool place and such sweet and beautiful kids!

I just love it when clients call me year after year to record their children!  It does two things for me.  First of all I get to reconnect with past clients/subjects but more importantly it allows me to become apart of their family!  The kids start to remember me from the past year or past sessions and they become a small part of my history as well!  What a fantastic job I have!

Slowing it down09.05.09

"Senior season" has been a blast thus far!  The fast pace and high energy of the kids is a great environment to work in.  But from time to time I need to slow it down a bit and regroup which normally includes a total change of gears.  I was lucky enough to get a call from a long time friend to photograph her brother with her kids.  At the end of the shoot toddler "M" was walking back to see her mommy and I got a chance to take a few images of her alone.  I called "M's" name and she allowed me to take a few more images of her.  VERY happy I was allowed that extra time. The light was perfect and I had these shots in mind. "M"s expressions just scream vintage!

This was the finished look I had in my head when "M" walked towards me.

It is sometimes difficult to look at the photographs you take.  Not that they are bad photographs or that the subject is less than desirable but that the photographs age the actual photographer. You see, this boy is my nephew, brother to the 6 year old I photographed last week.  The two of them have aged me many years when I look at the final photographs from these sessions.  I may hang it up if I am still around to shoot their wedding(s).  (Lord help me)  :)

Dance (?) photographs05.24.09

From time to time I photograph my niece Maddison and my nephew Riley.  This day was Maddison's turn as my sister wanted to have a few "dance" pictures of her 2009 season.  Sooooooo, we went to the local park and took some shots.  I am not exactly sure these are "dance" photos or anything remotely close to "dance" photos.  Seems the session went in a totally different direction.  Maddison is 6 and I am not totally sold on the fact that these look like a 6 year old that is a week away from graduating from kindergarten.  My apologies go out to my sister but the images are rockin'!

This first shot if of her green dance outfit. (hard to actually see it) But the expression is perfect I think!

My mother was a dancer when she was young. When I looked at this image I was certain it was one of my mother's pictures when she was young.  Very strange feeling to "see" your mother when you are working on images for your niece/sister. The outfit was a cute red one. Again, not a shot that "shows" the outfit but certainly exhibits strong family traits.

Not sure Maddison looks 7 here.

This shot was one that showed her age the best.  I like this one!
